DEI - What it is. What it is not.

 

Let’s start with the definition of it.

D stands for Diversity - the condition of having or being composed of differing elementsVARIETY

 

E stands for Equity - fairness or justice in the way people are treated - impartial treatment: lack of favoritism toward one side or another.

 

I stand for Inclusion - the act of including (to take in or comprise as a part of a whole or group)the state of being included.

 

This all sounds great. I’ll start with the last one because it’s easy. Inclusion should follow the prime directive (see Star Trek) as the number 2 general order. No one should be discriminated against.

 

Diversity. The first thing you have to ask is diversity of what. In the reference of DEI, it means all the classes and categories of the EEOC law.

 

I’m going to start with the legal definition of the law.

“The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is responsible for enforcing federal laws that make it illegal to discriminate against a job applicant or an employee because of the person's race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related conditions, transgender status, and sexual orientation), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information.”

 

What DEI is trying to do is to force representation from all the groups listed above. I am not sure why this is so important. I have heard because it brings different points of views. What I don’t understand is why it is thought that if you don’t have different groups that you don’t get different points of view. By definition if you are looking for this you have to look at people differently rather than the same in order to accomplish this task.

 

Now for the Equity. Treat people fairly and justly.

 

I am hiring for 5 positions - In order to accomplish the diversity if you have a pool of people to choose from. For example:

8 of them are white males

1 is an Asian male

1 is a Jewish male

1 is a gay male

1 is a black female

 

DEI creates a checklist of what you must have:

Race

Color

Religion

sex

transgender status

sexual orientation

national origin

age (40 or older)

disability or genetic information

 

You have to start picking from what you have the least of in order to make your quota that was mandated by adapting the policy of DEI.

 

All of these people get picked because it checks a box.

1 is an Asian male

1 is a Jewish male

1 is a gay male

1 is a black female (she checks 2 boxes).

Now add this one to fill the quota.

1 white male.

 

Notice none of the criteria was whether they can even do the job or not. What if all the white men were better qualified than anyone else. Don’t 4 of them get discriminated against in order to make your DEI quota? You bet they do.

 

Now, say you are getting into an airplane, and you notice your caption is a black male. You ask yourself was this person hired because they are skilled or because they met a DEI check box. Is that fair to the pilot? He may be well qualified, but now people wonder if he is or not.

 

You need heart surgery. Who do you want as your doctor a DEI hire or the person who is most qualified to save your life?

 

DEI hiring violates EEOC laws. It’s illegal. The EEOC was created because it’s immoral to discriminate. The group of people that is most hurt by DEI is the majority group, white males. But for some reason some people think it’s OK to do that.

 

DEI is very similar to affirmative action policies. It cloaks discrimination in some veil of a “higher principal” because the people making the policy benefit from it by pushing out people not of their class or group.

 

DEI forces people to separate people into groups. How does this bring people together? Dogs don’t look at other dogs and say I don’t like him because his fur is white and mine is black. Why do people?

 

The sex of a person is understandable because creatures have a biological drive to procreate the species. Skin color, religion, ethnicity, or who they choose to sleep with means nothing to someone’s skills and ability. But choosing someone for a job or getting into a college based on those attributes is immoral, unethical, and illegal.
