Patience

Writer: Claire MarieClaire Marie

When I was growing up, my siblings and I were taught that patience is a virtue. Then, my mom used to tell me that I had the patience of a saint. Unfortunately, I think it was her way of saying I was a pushover. As I grow older, there are some areas of my life where I have little to no patience and other areas where it seems my patience is limitless. Is it patience, apathy or something else? What do you think?

I've always struggled with patience. When my mother fell ill and began aging at an unfathomable speed, I prayed for patience. Hard lesson to learn. Be careful what you wish for. Boy oh boy was I provided with many lessons on patience. I wish I had tackled that hurdle before she fell ill, but life isn't what we wish for. It did help to prepare me for assisting with my MIL when her time came to meet our maker. Dementia is an excellent issue/sickness/disease for us to practice patience.
