Well, I haven't done a whole lot of writing lately (like a couple of years -or 3 - at least), but I keep having these random thoughts (or Food for Thought) come to mind that I thought I'd begin sharing. So, for my first "Food for Thought", I decided to focus on Spicy Food Lovers.

When I grew up, smoking was very common even though the U.S. Surgeon General officially declared that it was bad for you in 1964 and a LOT of people I know grew up in households with smokers. One thing that sticks in my mind is that both of my parents smoked AND enjoyed spicy foods. Thinking about it, smokers generally don't taste foods in the same way as people whose taste buds are unaffected by cigarettes, so they probably enjoyed the spicy foods because they could taste them.

Now that we're 62 years into the anti-smoking era and fewer people do smoke, what question do I have? Well, could it be that today's spicy food lovers (who never smoked) are the children and/or grandchildren of people who smoked? I see so many people much younger than me who LOVE spicy foods - think Carolina Reaper Sauce or Jelly. What do you think?
