Food for Thought: Political Campaigning (by Phone)

Okay, so the latest round of political campaigning has ended, but we'll be up for another heavy round soon enough with the mid-terms on the way. Just before the latest voting day, I got another one of those phone calls. And yes, I made the mistake of answering the phone, but it was from a familiar town where I have family, so I thought I should answer it - just in case it was important. This time they were asking if I planned to vote in the upcoming runoff election. (I really try to be nice.) I let the person get their whole spiel out this time, but seriously, it's none of your business. That's what I told the girl on the line and she hung up. Oh well.

Like I said earlier - I really do try to be nice. In the week prior to that election run-off day, JW and I had both been getting calls from the same small town in South Georgia. Sooooo, the next time I noticed that same small town again, I decided to answer the call. You know - just in case it was important. This time the caller was calling to campaign for a specific political candidate and asked who I was planning to vote for. HUGE mistake. Don't ever ask me who I'm voting for, much less call me to convince me to vote for your candidate. (Oh yea - I am on the "Do Not Call" registry - lotta good that does - NOT!)

Anyway...my response? "Every time someone calls me, it makes me less likely to vote for them." She sputtered. She recovered and kept talking. I told her I definitely wouldn't vote for someone who calls me to try to get my vote. She sputtered some more and recovered again. I said, "Take me off your call list - permanently!" She just kept talking - I hung up.

Seriously, I don't normally answer calls from unknown numbers, but I use my phone for work and sometimes, those unknown numbers are for legit calls - just not very often.

Anyway, back to the political campaign phone calls. Would you vote for someone who calls your unlisted phone number to try to get your vote? Would it make you more or less likely to vote for the candidate? For me, it would definitely be less, because I get enough spam calls and all you're doing is pissing me off.
